Happy Hobbit Day!

Today is "Hobbit Day"!  Smiley I can hear you asking, what is "Hobbit Day"?  Lol, Hobbit Day is the birthday of the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two characters in the Lord of the Ring books. In the books both Bilbo and Frodo were said to be born on September 22, but of different years. Bilbo was born in the year of 2890 and Frodo in the year of 2968 in the Third Age (1290 and 1368 in the Shire calendar.)  So

To celebrate the day I am going barefoot, lol, and I am also watching the movie "Fellowship of the Ring".  But I am not so sure I can celebrate by eating seven meals, although a "second breakfast" does sound good, lol.  Here are some other ways to celebrate Hobbit Day: http://www.wikihow.com/Celebrate-Hobbit-Day  In the meantime, I am enjoying the movie, supper will be a favorite cheesy ham dish, and later on my dad will be getting us all milkshakes.....I am getting vanilla!

Happy Hobbit Day!

Welcome to the Weekend!

acornWelcome to the weekend!  It's a cool and brisk weekend too as I have switched over to a long-sleeved shirt for now.  As usual, my week stayed busy with schoolwork (and digging, lol), church, then we had to go the chiropractor and go shopping.  Supper was my favorite, we had pepperoni pizza Edible/Food Smilies, yay!  Another crazy thing I've been doing this week is looking on Youtube at Wiggles videos.....any of you remember watching the Wiggles?  They were a favorite in my household years ago, we loved to watch them all the time......which probably drove my mom nuts after awhile, lol Smiley  Anyway, I'd like to welcome the weekend with a Wiggles video, playing one of my many favorite songs.  Feel free to get up and do "The Monkey Dance", lol!  Have a fun weekend!Smiley

Being an archaeologist

This week I am being an archaeologist  , one of many interests I have, also a possible future vocation, lol.  My mom bought me an archaeology kit, one that is for ancient Egypt.  I am having to slowly dig in this block of sediment which has three replicas of ancient Egyptian artifacts.  Here is a picture of me starting out on the digging (the girl in the purple shirt is my sister Puppyprincess, she was being my assistant, lol):

If you look closely in the next picture you can see a small part of the Ushabti, a small figurine that ancient Egyptians would bury with their dead in the tombs.  They believed that this Ushabti would be a servant for the dead person in the afterlife.

When I am finally done digging out this object, I will need to clean it, repair it, and then paint it.  Here is a picture of what a Ushabti looks like once it is dug up and restored:

Anyway, this project is really going to take a lot of time....I mean a LOT of time, lol.  I am sorry to say that I have been a little impatient with this digging Indifferent Smileys , as I have already caused an "oooops" with the artifact I am digging up blushing smiley.  So I will have to make more of an effort to slow down before I cause further damage.  Lol, I can already see that this is going to be an interesting experience for me.  But, in the end, it should be a fun way for me to see if I am really wanting to be an archaeologist in the future.

Off to go dig some more!

Schoolwork, yardwork, and music!

Sigh, schoolwork has kept me insanely busy this week, so I am just now getting around to updating things on here.  First of all, Hurricane Irene is gone but it left a mess in our yard.  We had a lot of cleaning up to do, picking up tree branches and shingles which were blown off our church.  The day of the hurricane we only lost our electricity for one day.....I'm VERY thankful for that, lol!Smiley

As I mentioned, schoolwork has been very crazy for me this week, I thought Greek was going to cause me to tear my hair out, sigh.  I got thru the rest of my subjects pretty well too, surviving Algebra and even acing my first Biology test, Smiley!  Of course, you know my most favorite subject right now is "Literary Lessons from LOTR", , I am doing well in that too.  Other stuff.....I have been looking at a lot of college pamphlets we got at the homeschool convention back in May.  But I am afraid that I am driving my mom crazy with all this college stuff, lol Smiley, she says I have awhile til I need to be bothering with all of that.  I know, I can't help it, it's still fun to look at all the neat stuff they have at different colleges.

It was back to music lessons this week, I am still doing piano Smiley and having fun with it.  After taking a break from lessons all summer, I had no problem jumping back into things.  I will be bringing one of our church hymnals to my lesson next week, I am wanting to learn to start playing hymns out of the hymnbook.  My mom teases me and says I am trying to take over her piano position at church, lol, but I am sure she can use the occassional break now and then.  I think it will be fun!Smiley
