Some excitement

Things have been kind of slow around, you know, the usual schoolwork and music practice, but there has been some excitement.  Yes, we had a nice Thanksgiving and my big brother was home from college for awhile....it was nice to get to see him again.  Breaktime was over all too soon and it was back to the usual stuff.  But today I got a break from the usual routine of things.  I got to go to the community college to take the Compass test, their college placement test so I could see about getting to take a college class or two next semester.  I was really nervous about the whole things since I don't usually do well on tests like this.  But I was totally surprised by my test results.  I placed into freshman-level college English, and almost placed into the freshman Math as well ....better than my brother did the first time he took the test, lol...and yes, he was impressed that I did so well.  So, I am looking forward to getting to take at least one college class soon...fun!

Oh, we also found out that my mom is going to have another baby girl.  I have to admit I was hoping for another brother since I already have two sisters , but I did eventually warm to the idea, lol.  My mom reminded me that baby sister will have her own personality and probably not be like my other two sisters, lol.  And, upon hearing how active baby sister already is, I found a soft soccer ball at the Dollar Tree I plan on getting for her, lol, she seems to already be practicing her kicking.  Oh, and I laid my hand on my mom's tummy and got to feel a little bit of the fluttering that baby sister is doing inside my mom...it was neat!  So, I look forward to seeing baby sister, but it will still be awhile til she is born since my mom is about 4 months along now.  I've already been thinking about the fun stuff we'll get to do with baby sister...I think she will be one spoiled little sister, lol!

Brrrrr!

Windy 1It seems the cold weather has blown in now and is here to stay for awhile.....brrrrr, it is cold!  We didn't get a lot from Hurricane Sandy, just and lot of wind a rain over the weekend since we only got the outskirts of the storm.  But I've definitely been staying warm with yummy hot cocoa....and sometimes some decaf. coffee, lol.  I've been doing pretty well with my schoolwork and music has kept me very as well.  My music teacher has assigned me four different pieces of music to practice, sigh.  I am also learning to use the foot pedals on the piano too, so that is taking some extra work on my part as it's a little harder to coordinate all that.  I throughly enjoyed the symphony music concert I got to attend with my music teacher.  She and I went to Goldan Corral for supper first....loved it!  Then we went to the concert, so much fun!  I also enjoyed seeing my big brother again, he was home from college on Fall break.  I have been busy shopping for a birthday present for him, his birthday is Nov. 20.  I have finally figured out what I am going to get for him, I think he is going to love it!  Other stuff.....my fat cat Oscar got into my lunch today .  I had made a nice salad for myself, it had Ranch salad dressing on it.  I guess Oscar must like Ranch salad dressing, I had stepped away for a minute only to find him licking the salad dressing Smiley.  Sigh!  Well, sorry this is so short, lol, not much else going on!

A symphony and other excitement!

SmileyHey everyone! I'm still here, just very busy with life around here....schoolwork, music lessons/practice, church, and helping out at home.  Sounds repetitive, but this weekend I will be getting a break from the usual routine around here.  Tomorrow, I will be going with my dad to go pick up my brother from college....he is on Fall break.  I am so excited as I might to get to practice some of my driving, plus I will get to see the college campus as well.....yay Smiley!  And yes, lol, I will be glad to see my big brother too!

Saturday night will be some more excitement for me, something I've never gotten to do before......attend a symphony concert!Free Music SmileysMy piano teacher had an extra ticket for a symphony concert and asked me if I could go.  Mom and dad said it was ok, so I will be getting to go, yay Free Happy Smileys!  She will first take me to dinner with her, then we will go to the concert.  We will be getting to hear Brahms’ First Symphony, opening with three popular melodies taken from larger works, including the famous opening strains of Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro and the mystical Overture to Carl Maria von Weber’s Romantic opera Der Freischütz. Also included in the program is the Love Scene from Berlioz’s large-scale “dramatic” symphony, Romeo and Juliet.  I'm soooooo excited, I can hardly wait Smiley!  This is going to be so much fun!

Other excitement around here.......my mom is going to have a baby!Free Baby Smileys  Yes, you read that right, I am going to be a big sister again, wonderful isn't it?!  I am secretly hoping this baby will be a boy, lol, you can't blame since I already have two sisters.  But we'll see.  Right now, my sisters and I have pretty much had to take over things and help out my mom more than usual.  She has been sick some and very tired as well, but she says she will be getting to feeling better pretty soon and have her energy back.  Until then we help out with things like cooking supper.  Last week, on my night, I was making homemade pizza when I got carried away with the flour, lol, it kind of poofed everywhere Free Indifferent Smileys all over me and the counter.  So, it's been an adventure around here, lol!Smiley

Driving time!

Yay, it's driving time!  I got my driver's permit, woo hoo!SmileyI am thrilled to get to drive now, although I am still a bit nervous....and I think my mom is too, lol.  But, so far it's been pretty good.  I have to do a lot of practicing driving with my mom or dad next to me.  Since I have a permit, there certain times of day I can drive (no driving after 9 p.m.) and I can't have any passengers other than one of my parents.  Not a problem for me, I think my sisters would make me more nervous if they were in the car with me.  So, I have passed another milestone in my life, such an exciting time for me!

Schoolwork is going pretty well, of course I am enjoying British literature, lol.  I did not get to register for any college classes as a dual-enrolled student.  The had cut back on a lot of classes I was interested in taking, there was nothing in the Career path I wanted to take....they only had classes for computer, business, animal science, etc.  They do have the Associate degree pathway, but I need good ACT scores and I haven't taken that test yet.  I will be going thru a ACT test prep book for the rest of this semester, then take the placement test at the community college.  Hopefully then I will qualify to take some classes like art, history, or English. Other stuff....piano lessons start back in a couple of weeks, yay!SmileyI really love playing the piano and have been keeping up with practicing some new songs during the summer.  I can hardly wait to get started!

Well, that is all for now, I am tired as I've had a long day of visiting some new friends at a homeschool group.  Have a great day!

School time already?!

animated smileys school 1I can't believe it......it's time for school already.  Where did the summertime go?  Sigh, I think it went by way too fast for me.  I got to enjoy summer camp, 4-H activities, and driver's education.
Now here it is, time for school again.  But I am a little excited because I am starting 11th gradeSmiley!  I only have three high school subjects to do.....Bible, U.S History, and British/American Literature.  I am really going to love that British literature, my favorite!  I will also be getting to register for a couple of college classes for dual enrollment, I'm very excited about that.

Sorry this post is so short, I need to get going with my schoolwork!

Lazy days of summer

animated smileys summer 7It's the lazy days of summer for me, lol!  I had a great week of summer camp, and I really enjoyed getting to see my big brother who works at the camp.  Thankfully it was not too hot although we did get rain....but that didn't mess up our time at the lake.  I got to enjoy swimming, tubing, and kayaking.  Then there was dodgeball, counselor hunt, turtle wars, volleyball, rollerskating, etc.  Of course the preaching and devotions time was good as well.  Since getting my braces off my teeth, I was espeially looking forward to getting something at the snack shop each day....eating stuff I wasn't able to eat when I was wearing braces.  However, it seemed like everytime I bought a snack, it was time for another game or activity, Puzzled Confused Smiley kind of made it hard for me to enjoy my snack right away.  I did make sure I got to the gift shop too so I could buy a music CD, I got one from Majesty Music called "Listen for the Trumpet", one of my favorites.

Now that camp is done, I am still waiting to start the on-the-road training for driver's education.  They haven't called about that yet, I am both excited and nervous about it.  For now, I have been playing computer games, reading, listening to music, doing yard work, and helping out at home.  And, a few weeks from now, I will be going to a 4-H activity too.  So there is always plenty for me to do during these lazy days of summer!Happy Happy Smiley

Happy times!

Happy SmileyHappy times for me this week!  First of all, I am done with the classroom instruction for driver's education and I passed....woo hoo!  I will be starting the actual driving training in a couple of weeks.  And, I got my braces off my teeth....another woo hoo!SmileyI am so thrilled, lol, it feels great to be able to eat what I want now.  After getting my braces off, the orthodontist made a cast of my teeth so they could make the clear plastic retainer I will be wearing now.  After that, my mom took me to lunch at Taco Bell, it was great!  I got a steak quisadilla, along with some crunchy nachos, and a Pepsi.Smiley  We then took a look around in a Christian bookstore, I saw a lot of great books and videos I'd love to have, lol.  Then we went back to the orthodontist to get my plastic retainer fitted on my teeth.  Well, I have to say that my first impression is that this plastic retainer definitely feels different, and it makes me talk funny, lol, like I have a lisp.  But the ortodontist says once I get used to it I will talk better later on.  I have to wear it at all times except for when I eat.  Plus, once a week, I have to put this whitening gel into the retainer before putting it on my teeth.  This will help whiten my teeth.  For now, I am adjusting to this new retainer, although my teeth are achy.  But, I have to say it has been worth having the braces....my teeth look nice and straight!Smiley

Driver's ed. and music

Driving Driving 014.gif SmileyYay, I have finally started driver's education!  I am so excited, but at the same time I am also nervous too.  So far, we are still doing the classroom instruction, so far so good.  I am keeping up with everything just fine, taking plenty of notes like I need to do.  I am taking the driver's ed. at the local high school, so that has been interesting, lol.  We started off meeting in the school's auditorium, but we will be separated into different classes tomorrow acccording to our age.  There hasn't been too much for me to adjust to except for taking notes and getting used to the noise level Surprised Surprise Smiley.  Since I am homeschooled, I am mostly around my siblings.  Being around other teens at driver's ed., I have found them to be loud at times.  Part of this is my personality, I am mostly laid back and quiet, so I don't always care for a lot of noise.  I also tend to be on the shy side of things, however, inspite of this, I did manage to make a friend there.  So, for now, everything is going fine there with driver's ed., although I didn't care for when they showed a film on traffic accidents.  The film also showed people who had been severly injured or burned in car accidents.  I know they're only trying to get a certain point across to us teens, but the whole thing just ruined my appetite Smiley .  On another day, they spoke on drugs and alcohol and how it all affects you, ad your driving.  It was all familiar to me because I had already learned about all of this in Biology and my high school health I took this past school year.  They also had to briefly touch on one non-driving related subject.....the subject of how to be dressed when you come to driver's ed.  Yes, apparently there were girls showing up to driver's ed. wearing spaghetti-strapped shirts and also shorts that barely covered their backside.  And, there were guys showing up wearing baggy shorts which showed their underwear Surprised Surprise Smiley.  So, they told the girls....no short-shorts or spaghetti-strap shirts, and they told the guys....no baggy pants.  Crazy!  As for me, I didn't have to worry about any of that because I dress modest as it is, in fact, I am very particular about how I dress.  Anyway, we get our vision test done tomorrow, I think I should do alright with that though.  Anyway, I though I would post a video of my piano recital, I am playing "In Dreams" from the "Lord of the Rings" movie.  Hope you enjoy it!

Now Come the Days of the King!

I began my school year with the words of King Theoden in the LOTR movie, "The Two Towers":  "And so it begins...".  The daunting task of Algebra, Geometry, Biology, etc. lay before me, so my own battle began, although I did not battle Orcks, lol  Smiley.  Well, today was the last day of homeschooling until this August, so now I can say the battle has ended.  And, in the words of Gandalf, "Now come the days of the king! May they be blessed."  I had a fantastic time getting to go thru "Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings", I was definitely blessed by it.  So, I end this school year with my favorite part from near the ending of "Return of the King"....Aragorn's coronation.  Underneath this, you will find the Elfish words, the pronounciation, and the English translation of the song he sings after being crowned.

Yawn!

Smiley Yawn!  Things have been kind of ho-hum around here lately with the usual schoolwork, music practice, and some yard work.  My recital piece is coming along fine and my flowers are starting to bloom.  I am doing pretty well with schoolwork and am in the homestretch...yay!Happy Smiley Before I know it, we will be done with school and going off to the homeschool conference.  I am very excited, definitely looking forward to seeing some friends, visiting the book fair, and attending the workshop on fantasy literatureHappy Smiley.  I will also be getting to volunteer at the Children's Conferene that will be happenning on the second/third days of the conference.  It is for children ages 5-12.  I will be volunteering as a group assistant to a small group of children, assisting in various activities and programs they will have going on for the kids.  I am so looking forward to this, it sounds like it will be fun working with the kids.  My younger sister, Puppyprincess, will be attending the conference since she is young enough to go to it, so she is excited too! Happy Smiley  Well, that's about it for now, I need to get going to music lessons now, have a great day...and oh, enjoy another funny cat picture, lol!
